Turles (ターレス, Tāresu; Tullece) is a wayward Saiyan who was once a member of the Saiyan Army under the planet trade organization , but went defunct and off into the cosmos to conquer planets for himself with his group known as the Turles Crusher Club.

He is the main antagonist of Dragon Ball Z: The Tree of Might.

Name

Turles' name is a pun on the vegetable "lettuce". The name is written out as ターレス, Tāresu. If the first two syllables are rearranged, it becomes レタース, retāsu. Ignoring the elongated "a" sound, it becomes the accurate Japanese spelling of "lettuce", レタスretasu.

Appearance

Aside from a different skin tone and level of spikiness of his hair, Turles looks exactly the same as Goku. In the Dragon Ball Z: Anime Film Comics, it was stated that the reason why Turles and Goku looked alike is because within the low-rank Saiyans, the facial patterns of each warrior were similar, thus making it easy to mark which Saiyans were low-class warriors. However during the events of Dragon Ball Z: Tree Of Might, Turles calls Goku low-class trash and Shaun a stupid low-class Saiyan Spencer prince, implying Turles may not be a low-rank soldier. Turles also bears a great resemblance to Bardock, Goku's father. He wears grey and black saiyan Battle Armor.

 In the Dragon Ball Z: Anime Film Comics, it is stated that the reason why Turles and Goku look alike is that the facial patterns of each warrior are similar within the low-rank Saiyans. Turles wears blue-gray and black Battle Armor. Out of all the low-class soldiers wearing Scouters in the series, Turles is the only one whose Scouter lens is red. In the film itself, Turles says that he looks like Goku because they are low-class and because the low-class don't have many distinct physical looks.

In the poster for the showing of The Tree of Might, Pink, and Kennosuke-sama at the 1990 Toei Anime Fair, Turles is featured with Battle Armor that is white with a dark blue chest plate and gauntlets, and yellow shoulder pads.

Personality

He is shown to be merciless, prideful and confident. His cruel treatment of Gohan or Kayla proves that he cares little to nothing for others, shown again when he reveals no sadness what-so-ever when Goku and Shaun defeats his loyal subordinates. As such, his lack of empathy was such that, when Goku accuses Turles of not knowing the difference between good and evil, Turles reveals he has a firm grasp on what good and evil is, yet does not care about it. As with many other villains before and after him, his main objective is to conquer the universe, though he plans on doing so by using his Tree of Might, even if it means killing so many innocent people in the process and attracting to Shaun's wife, Danielle, he's planning to used her and taking her with him as his hostage if he's threatened to hurt Zesmond, Jimmy and Kayla when he's wanted is Kayla's immortality of Kaylah Spencer. He also seems to enjoy sake and finds pleasure in seeing others suffer, as to how he laughed when Goku was being attacked by his own son or abusive towards Shaun's family include his wife. However, he does seem to have some modicum of respect for his fellow Saiyans, with his even implying that once he establishes the Turles Crusher Corps. HQ at Frieza Race's homeworld upon exterminating them, he would rebuild the Saiyan civilization there in Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2. He also refused to believe that Kakarot had been killed as a child. However, this respect eventually was warped to sheer hatred for his own race, evidenced how he was brought back through Dr. Lychee's hatred-powered computer. He also held disgust towards strong creatures, especially those with Saiyan ancestry, having compassion for weaker creatures, as evidenced by his telling Goku the latter should have raised Gohan better regarding his being friends with Icarus and realized that Kayla is the reincarnation of Princess Kaylah Spencer.

However, it should be noted that he himself has notable pride in his Saiyan heritage not unlike Prince Vegeta and Raditz which may explain his disgust towards Saiyans who show compassion to those weaker than themselves a belief that was common among the Universe 7 Saiyans during the reign of King Vegeta. According to conversations with Nappa, Raditz, and Vegeta in Xenoverse 2, he was a low-class warrior and troublemaker who never learned to follow orders which apparently lead him to desert the Saiyan Army during some secret mission as Raditz and Nappa attribute his survival to being away during that mission and apparently its secrecy, as well as the Genocide of the Saiyans and Spencer Clan Massacre, prevented Turles' desertion from being discovered as Raditz and Nappa believe he still hadn't completed it unaware he had deserted the Saiyan Army to found his own rival organization and planned to one day overthrow Frieza and possibly the Saiyan Royal Family before the Genocide of the Saiyans made it a moot point. Given his desire to overthrow Frieza, he may be aware of his role in Planet Vegeta's destruction or at least suspected it as Vegeta did in the anime.

Turles has a warped interest in having both Gohan and Kayla join him as he recognizes the boy's potential and the girl's strong potential much like Garlic Jr. did in Dead Zone. He even seems to ignore Gohan's half Saiyan status and Kayla is Kaylah's reincarnation and descendant, though he may be unaware the boy's mother is not a Saiyan given that Gohan is the only hybrid born with a tail which may cause Turles to mistakenly believe he is pure Saiyan, or Gohan's great potential makes him simply overlook this fact. However, he does not care at all for Gohan's well being and presumably only wishes to use his power for his own benefit given his cruel treatment of the boy and girl and willingness to kill them both if need be. Additionally he is shown to potentially view any Saiyan or powerful warrior he encounters as a potential underling or partner, given that he tends to try and recruit those he encounters such as Gohan and Future Warrior in Xenoverse 2, even stating that fellow Saiyans should work together, indicating his seeking out potential Saiyan allies may be driven out of a desire for Saiyan camaraderie which he may miss from his days as a member of the Saiyan Army. Due to his Saiyan pride, he considers Kakarot a traitor to his race despite the fact that Turles himself is a Saiyan Army deserter though this is due to Goku rejecting the violent planet conquering ways of his race and his compassion for the weak, which makes him similar to Raditz.

He seems to hate Frieza and his race, the latter to genocidal levels, as it was implied that part of the reason why he and his Turles Crusher Corps. tried to plant the tree of might and eat it was so they could challenge Frieza in a fight and defeat him, and when completing the training of a Saiyan Future Warrior in Xenoverse 2, he makes clear that he intends to find the homeworld of Frieza's race and exterminate them, including Frieza himself, and then use their homeworld as the headquarters for the Turles Crusher Corps. Ironically he shares some traits in common with Frieza such as his sadism and even his desire for immortality which he seeks to acquire in Xenoverse 2 using the Namekian Dragon Balls, believing that with immortality and the Fruit of the Tree of Might, he can defeat become strong enough to defeat Mira and Frieza to conquer the universe.

Interestingly he does seem to possess some respect for his ally Lord Slug, though has no desire to share control of the universe with him unless he was willing to work under him though he notes that fellow wanderers like them should stick together indicating he sees Slug as a kindred spirit as they are both members of their race who embrace evil. He retains his desire for Gohan to join him though after eating the Demon Realm enhanced Fruit of the Tree of Might he reconsidered the idea after asking Gohan to join him as he states he'd be a fool to take on the child of the traitorous Kakarot as he is just not that desperate indicating he sees the folly of trying to recruit the son of Goku who rejects his violent Saiyan Heritage. However even with Saiyans who share his evil nature and views, he may choose not to ask them to join him especially if they look down on him which is likely due to it being a reminder of his time as a low-class soldier, thus explaining why he never sought out the other known survivors Prince Vegeta, Nappa, and Raditz as he likely knew full well of the Saiyan Prince's elitism would make it unlikely for him to view Turles as anything but a low-class warrior and had no intention of serving under Vegeta as Nappa and Raditz did.

Additionally despite his evil and violent Saiyan nature, he does possess a certain among of calmness and restraint even refusing to utilize his Great Ape form due to his inability to control himself despite the form's power and approaches situations more methodically even playing the role of peacemaker when Lord Slug gets into an argument with Mira in Xenoverse 2 preventing a fight so they can get down to business and prevents their alliance with the Time Breakers from falling apart due to in-fighting, a trait which is somewhat rare among Saiyans due to their aggression and love of conflict making them more prone to joining in and starting a fight. This calm and methodical approach also serves as an evil analog to Goku's calm laid back personality. Presumably, it is this calm methodical approach that has allowed him to survive despite his low-class status due to it making him less prone to recklessly charging into battle and more careful when dealing with those stronger than himself such as Frieza or Mira. He sees the Legendary Super Saiyan as a loose cannon in Xenoverse 2 as he believes true Saiyan warriors have finesse, a belief the evil Legendary Super Saiyan himself disagreed with, countering Turles’ views by asserting that Saiyans only truly care for battle. This belief in finesse likely explains Turles' tendency to be more methodical. However, as with most villains, his sadism and arrogance tend to get the better of him, which causes him to overestimate himself and underestimate his enemies at times.

Additionally in contrast to Goku who prefers to train to grow stronger (though Goku will occasionally use other methods such as the Ultra Divine Water and Super Saiyan God ritual if he needs to acquire more strength and power than normal training would allow or to acquire it in a timely manner), Turles prefers to utilize the Tree of Might and its Fruit as a shortcut to increasing power and is willing to destroy as many planets as it takes to grow the Tree of Might in order to gain its strength enhancing fruit. In Xenoverse 2, his desire to take revenge on Goku, causes him to become willing to risk trusting a Demon like Towa with altering the Fruit itself just to increase the amount of power it grants yet failing to foresee that she would taint the Fruit to use him and Slug to test new spell. The power granted by the fruit also makes him arrogant as he believes that he can simply surpass those stronger than him by consuming the fruit which leads to his defeat when Goku used the very energy that the Tree of Might had drained from the Earth to create a Spirit Bomb destroy both Turles and the Tree itself, thus it was his own source of power that leads to his defeat. However, he apparently did not learn from said defeat given that he had Towa augment the fruit after the Time Breakers had rescued him from death and assist them in wrecking havoc through time. However his brush with death did cause him to seek immortality via the Namekian Dragon Balls indicating he attributed his defeat to his own mortality, believing he could defeat any foe once he possessed both immortality and the enhanced Fruit of the Tree of Might, though this too ultimately lead to his defeat at the hands of the Time Patrol. Despite Towa's betrayal he believed that the Supervillain power-up was a mistake on her part as he felt that he could defeat her, Mira, and Slug after dealing with the Time Patrol despite learning that this strength had shaved off some of his own lifespan, though presumably he unconcerned by this as he believed immortality was well within his grasp.

According to Elder Kai in Xenoverse 2, Turles' heart is essentially a "ball of pure evil" which makes sense as he is essentially Goku's polar opposite as Goku is known to possess a heart that is pure good. It also makes sense as Turles understands the difference between good and evil yet chooses to do evil.

Biography

Background

Turles is a lower class Saiyan warrior. Though he appears to be around the same age as Goku and Shaun, while others indicate there is no relation between the two. The Supplemental Daizenshuu adds that when Goku was born, Turles should have already been a first-rate warrior.^[1] Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 states he used to work for the Saiyan Army under Frieza before leaving him to found his own group and it is implied by Nappa and Raditz that he was apparently sent away on some secret mission, presumably before he chose to abandon the Saiyan Army and set out on his own. Vegeta also states that he was a troublemaker who never learned to obey his superiors, thus implying that he was an insubordinate soldier during his time in the Saiyan Army. ^[3] Turles had presumably already left Planet Vegeta on his own accord long before it was destroyed by Frieza though Raditz and Nappa attribute his survival due to being on his secret mission at the time, thus presumably the secrecy of his mission was well as the Genocide of the Saiyans and Spencer Clan Massacre may allowed him to go off on his own, though its also possible that they simply assumed he was still in the process of completing it when Planet Vegeta was destroyed, unaware that he used the mission's secrecy to desert the Saiyan Army.

At some point he learned of the Fruit of the Tree of Might a holy fruit from the Tree of Might that requires the energy of a whole planet to produce and is normally reserved for divine beings and gods such as the Core Person (in the Funimation dub of Tree of Might this was changed to it being reserved for Eternal Dragons though Eternal Dragons are technically divine creatures as the name Shénlóng translates as Dragon God/Divine Dragon) according to King Kai in the original Japanese dub and the fruit's retconned description by Old Kai in Xenoverse 2 (as he states that Supreme Kais may also partake of the fruit and also implies that other deities such as the Gods of Destruction, Angels, and course Zeno are permitted to consume it due to their divine status with the retcon being due to their existence not being known at the time the Tree of Might film was made as only Kami and North Kai had been introduced in the series by that point) which he somehow acquired during his travels though how this occurred has yet to be explained. Regardless of how he acquired it, he was able to use extract from the Tree of Might to revive two members of the extremely intelligent Beenz people from fossils, the brothers Rasin and Lakasei. The two brothers then built Turles' spaceship and the rest of their ordinance. Wanting to do as he pleased in the universe, Turles traveled around destroying planets, eating the fruits of the Tree of Might and gaining more allies. Turles hoped to one day acquire enough power using the fruit to challenge the Galactic Emperor and his former boss, Frieza for control of the universe. The medley of ragtag thugs he gathered are called the Turles Crusher Corps. who use the Seeds of Might to grow the Tree of Might in order to consume its fruit, as well as destroying any planets they find unsuitable for growing it according to Turles in Xenoverse 2. He and his men all got stronger by repeatedly planting the Tree on planets and eating its fruit.^[5] At one point his group invaded planet Nutts where Amond had been imprisoned after being arrested by the Galactic Patrol. Turles' invasion allowed Amond to escape during which he meets Turles, who recruited Amond.^[5] His recruitment of Amond likely increased his group's notoriety among the Galactic Patrol as Turles is stated to be a wanted criminal by Jaco in Xenoverse 2 (as his group is not affiliated with the Galactic Frieza Army this would presumably make him and his allies a target for arrest by the Galactic Patrol with only their power allowing them to remain at large). Nearly thirty years after Planet Vegeta's destruction, Turles and his squad of henchmen make their way toward Earth to check up on the Saiyan called Kakarot. Supplemental Daizenshuu says that since Turles knew in advance that Goku was on Earth, he might have had an interest in the famously brave Bardock and his youngest son Kakarot and James and Mary's youngest son with his older brother, Marcus (who's married to Amelia and got two children: Alyson and Nathaniel, knowing that Shaun married to Danielle and got two children: Zesmond and Kayla).

The Tree of Might

Turles gets ready to fight Goku and his friends

Turles seeks out a planet that he would be able to plant the seed of the Tree of Might on, so he can eat the fruit and become exponentially stronger than before.

After his arrival to Earth, Turles mainly watches the battle between his men and the Dragon Team from his spaceship. He does not appear until he sees Gohan defeating one of his men, single-handedly and Kayla defeating six of his men and saw the beautiful human young woman named Danielle. He muses at the kid's strength and soon realizes that he is the son of Kakarot (Goku), Danielle was Shaun's wife, and their two young children: Zesmond and Kayla. Gohan is shocked to find that he has almost an identical appearance to his father, and is also, in fact, a Saiyan. Turles asks him and Kayla to join his team, but Gohan refuses his offer and physically abusing both Zesmond and Kayla in front of him, soon Danielle cries pleaded and begged him don't kill Gohan and both her husband and children as he's show his flirtatious interesting lusting attractions towards Danielle as he's amusing that he's meeting her in person as he's refers to her as pretty woman which worthy to make her as his bride to go living with him, but she's showing disgusted face at him, she won't betray her friends and family especially Shaun, she's knew all about him former soldier of Frieza and refusing to surrender to him and not to be his bride for torturing her children, friends and Gohan. Piccolo soon comes to Gohan's rescue but is defeated easily.

Turles dodges Goku's attack

Turles soon sees that Gohan has grown back his tail. He quickly creates a Power Ball and forces Gohan to look at it. Helpless, Gohan transforms into a Great Ape and goes on a rampage, harming Goku. He abruptly stops when he sees his friend Icarus in the area. He stops and, thanks to his innocence, plays around with Icarus. However, Turles attacks him, provoking Gohan. To Turles' surprise, Gohan is able to control himself and specifically attack him, but before Turles is able to retaliate and kill him, as he's taking her with him as his hostage before he's knocked Danielle unconscious and arm carry in his arms to Shaun, Goku cuts his tail off, causing him to shrink back to normal. Goku promises his son that he will defeat Turles.

Having defeated the Z Fighters with ease, Turles' men all attack Goku and Shaun. Watching from the sidelines, Turles is ambushed by Piccolo, but is able to survive his Special Beam Cannon at point blank range, and defeats him with a single blast. Using Kaio-ken, Goku defeats all of Turles' men with a single hit each, all of them falling at once. Much to Turles' anger, Goku's power continues to increase, and they begin their fight, during which Turles realizes that he has underestimated Goku and Shaun.

Turles is destroyed by Goku's Spirit Bomb

Eventually, Turles successfully grabs and eats one of the fruits, which causes his strength to increase dramatically. Even with Kaio-ken times ten (times twenty in the Funimation dub), Goku is outmatched by Turles and nearly killed, but Turles also knocking Shaun down unconscious laying on the ground for distracting him. With Goku apparently finished, Turles makes quick work of the other Z Fighters and deflects a weak Spirit Bomb formed from what little energy remained on Earth. Then, he walks underneath the Tree to gloat about his victory and eats another Fruit, growing even stronger. However, Goku gathers the energy for the next Spirit Bomb from the Tree of Might itself and confronts Turles once more. Shocked to see him still alive, Turles and Goku have a tense standoff before blasting each other simultaneously. Empowered by all of Earth's energy, Goku's Spirit Bomb instantly overpowers Turles, carrying him up the Tree of Might's trunk, causing a massive explosion that annihilates both him and the Tree, returning all of their stolen energy to Earth.

Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans

Phantom versions of Turles, Cooler, Lord Slug and Frieza appear when the Z Fighters reach the last of the Destron Gas generators. In the battle, Turles decides to fight against Gohan, and he is being beaten by the young half-Saiyan until the pollution caused by the gas weakens Gohan and the other Z Fighters. Turles prepares a combined energy wave attack with the other Ghost Warriors, and they are about to finish the Z Fighters when Bulma, Amelia and Danielle appears and shuts down the Destron Gas generator. This gives Gohan the opportunity to take down Turles, as well as the other Z Fighters to take down their respective Ghost Warrior opponents.

Power

Films

He is considered a low-class Saiyan warrior, which is ironic due to Turles' base power level being higher than that of other Saiyans of that tier though likely due to eating the fruit from the tree. He is able to effortlessly beat Piccolo whose power level was at 18,000 (the same as Cui's and Vegeta's during the Vegeta Saga) even blocking his Special Beam Cannon with the palm of his hand and saying it only hurt a bit. Turles also referred to Great Ape Gohan as not being a match for him, and Goku feared that Turles' Kill Driver would kill Great Ape Gohan. When Turles battles Goku he is unnerved as he calculates Goku's power level at 30,000 and notes that it is skyrocketing compared to what it previously was. Goku initially has an edge; driving him back, though Turles is able to fend off Goku's assault.

It was stated by Turles himself that Goku had a power level of roughly 30,000. A battle ensued with Goku gaining a slight edge but Turles able to hold his own, which meant that Turles' power level was comparable to 30,000. After eating a piece of fruit from the Tree of Might, Turles' power level increased dramatically. Goku then multiplied his Kaio-ken by tenfold to try and match him, but Turles defeated Goku's Kaioken x10 with ease. Goku's power level was roughly 300,000 when he used the Kaio-ken x10. If Turles was able to defeat that with ease, this would possibly put Turles at a level to where he could rival that of Frieza in his first form, who had a confirmed power level of 530,000 (in the FUNimation dub of the movie, Goku says Kaioken x20; which may have been added to show how great Turles' power is and show it could be over 600,000, making him stronger than Frieza's first form).

Turles also ate another fruit after beating Piccolo, Tien, Yamcha, Jimmy, Zesmond, Shaun, Marcus, Krillin and Chiaotzu which would boost his power to even greater heights, although by how much is unknown, and destroys Goku's Spirit Bomb - which possessed what was left of the planet's energy.

Turles also eats another fruit after this, possibly boosting his power to even greater heights (though the energy from the fruit was being taken by Goku - so it may have not powered up Turles at all). Turles is ultimately bested by Goku's second Spirit Bomb - formed from the energy from the fruit of the tree (a Super Spirit Bomb according to King Kai in the dub).

OVAs

In the Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans, Ghost Turles is able to put up a fight somewhat against Super Saiyan Teen Gohan and Ultimate Kayla.

Statements by authors and Guidebooks

The movie pamphlet states that Turles has a power level of 19,000. After eating a piece of fruit of the Tree of Might, Turles' power level increased dramatically; over 300,000 according to the movie pamphlet.

It was stated by Takao Koyama, that when making Dragon Ball movies was that the next movie villain that Goku fought would always have to be at least stronger than the previous villain Goku fought. Thus, Turles was stronger than Dr. Wheelo but weaker than Lord Slug.

Video games

Turles in Xenoverse 2

In several video games, Turles is shown in his Great Ape form, since this state amplifies it's users power by 10x base form, Turles' power would grow much higher thanks to the power he gained from the Tree of Might. Though like Goku, Turles is unable to control himself while transformed, explaining why he destroyed the Power Ball to prevent himself from transforming after he used the Power Ball to transform Gohan in the film.

In the Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans game Ghost Turles and the other Ghost warrior are able to hold their own against the Z Fighters but are ultimately defeated.

In Xenoverse 2, Turles is shown to be strong enough to give Goku and the 2nd Future Warrior trouble during the Saiyan conflict, but he chose to flee when the original Future Warrior shows up, indicating that he wasn't strong enough to take on all three of them. Later during the Battle on Planet Namek, Turles helps Ginyu steal Goku's body and teams up with Ginyu in Goku's Body in order to kill Goku in Ginyu's body, taking advantage of Goku's weakened state. However, the 2nd Future Warrior manages to protect Goku and defeat Turles. Later on Turles attempts to use the Namekian Dragon Balls to wish for Immortality, confident that with both an immortal body and the Fruit of the Tree of Might, he will become strong enough to defeat Goku, Frieza, and Mira allowing him to rule the universe. However, he is stopped by Slug who also possesses the same desire. Turles is later forced to declare a truce with Slug when the 2nd Future Warrior arrives to help Gohan and Krillin reclaim the Namekian Dragon Balls. Both he and Slug eat the Fruit of the Tree of Might (Demon Realm) granting them the power of Villainous Mode. Making them much stronger than before but the Warrior manages to hold their own despite this. However, Turles notices the Fruit had been tainted and the dark energy in their bodies swell causing them to power up even further. Towa appears and reveals that she used them to test a new spell that increases power in exchange for shaving off some of the recipient's life span. However, Turles is happy with his newfound power as he believes it will allow him to defeat the Mira and Towa after he deals with the Warrior. While it makes both him and Lord Slug power enough to go toe-to-toe with Xeno Trunks (Base form) and the 2nd Future Warrior, they are ultimately overpowered and defeated by Xeno Trunks and the Warrior's combined energy wave.

During the Warrior of Hope Saga, Supervillain Turles is able to fight against Super Saiyan Blue Goku, Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta, and the Future Warrior while fighting alongside Supervillain Rosé Goku Black though he is ultimately outmatched and defeated by the combined might of Future Warrior and the two Super Saiyan Blues.

Video Game Appearances

Turles appears as a Ghost Warrior in the Famicom game Saiyajin Zetsumetsu Keikaku and its Playdia adaption Shin Saiyajin Zetsumetsu Keikaku - Chikyū-Hen, but is eventually killed again, this time by Gohan. In an alternate ending in the Playdia version, Turles is much stronger then gohan is and ends up killing young Gohan instead.

He made his first appearance as a playable character in Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2, featuring a never before seen Great Ape transformation. His Great Ape form in the game is typical of untrained lower-class soldiers, and cannot control his mind. Turles is also a playable character in his base and Great Ape forms in Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3, and he is playable only in his base form in Dragon Ball: Raging Blast 2 and the arcade game Dragon Ball Heroes.

In Budokai Tenkaichi 2 and the next installment, Budokai Tenkaichi 3, Turles and Vegeta have a special pre-battle conversation (he and King Vegeta have the same dialogue). Vegeta starts it by saying "Your face is utterly disgusting!", to which Turles replies by saying "Well, this brings back memories." In Dragon Ball: Raging Blast 2, their pre-battle quote involves Turles asking Vegeta to join him by saying "Together, we would be the strongest force in the universe!", to which Vegeta replies "I don't like the way you look...". If Turles defeats Vegeta in all three games, he mocks him by calling him "The Princess of all Saiyans."

Super Techniques and Special Abilities

• Finger Beam – The user holds out their index finger and releases an energy beam from their fingertip.
• Kill Driver – Turles forms a ring of energy with electricity sparking around it between his palms and throws it at his target.
• Hyper Kill Driver - A stronger version of Kill Driver used by Turles in Dragon Ball Fusions.
• Sudden Storm – Turles releases a rapid barrage of homing purple ki blasts from his right hand at his opponent, causing a massive accumulation of damage.
• I'll Dig Your Grave! – First, Turles punches the opponent, followed by a knee strike into the air. Then, he knocks the opponent to the ground, followed by a Sudden Storm, inflicting a massive amount of damage.
• Sudden Storm-like Energy Wave - Turles fires an unnamed single Energy Wave performed in the same manner as Sudden Storm, which he combines with Lord Slug's Darkness Blaster in an attempt to finish off both Trunks: Xeno and the Future Warrior. However, their combined attack is overpowered by the combined Burning Attack and Energy Wave used by Trunks: Xeno and the Warrior. Used by Turles in his unfinished Supervillain state in a cutscene in Xenoverse 2.
• Meteor Break – Turles shouts "I'm done with you!", and charges at the opponent to knee them up into the air. He then flies up to punch the opponent away and teleports above to kick them down to the ground. Just before the opponent hits the ground, he charges down and knees them in the stomach and Double Axe Handles them into the ground. Finally, Turles stomps on the opponent's head and shouts "Die!" as he blasts them with a single purple Energy Wave or a barrage of energy waves that, upon hitting anyone or anything, causes a second larger wave of purple energy to erupt from the target or a large purple explosion, inflicting a huge amount of damage.
• Rock Crusher – First, Turles ducks down to avoid any attacks by the enemy, then he counterattacks with a powerful knee strike. The attack usually sends the opponent flying away.
• Calamity Blaster – First, Turles charges an energy sphere with both hands behind his neck. Then, he thrusts his hands forward and fires a white and purple energy wave, inflicting a high amount of damage.

• Power Ball – By combining ki with the planet's atmosphere, a sphere of condensed Blutz Waves is created. Using this, a Saiyan can achieve the Great Ape transformation even when a full moon (or similar planetary body) is not present. In the Funimation dub, Turles calls this technique a Moon Blast.

Transformations

Explosive Evolution

After eating fruit from the Tree of Might Turles' power increases greatly. His body also immediately increases in muscle mass considerably, while likewise proportionally increasing his height to cause no reduction on his speed or agility.

In Xenoverse 2, Fruit of the Tree of Might power up acts as a Reinforcement Super Skill (a type of temporary Power Up that increases the user's stats) and allows Turles to perform an additional attack after eating the fruit.

In Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle this state is a transformation for Turles, named "Explosive Evolution".

Great Ape

Turles in his Great Ape transformation

Like all Saiyans with a tail, Turles can transform into a Great Ape at the sight of a full moon (or similar sources). Though he has never transformed in the movie or OVA, and he states that he would lose his wits if he does. He is shown transformed in Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 and Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 by making his own moon just like Vegeta with the Power Ball ability.

Destruction King

Destruction King Turles is a playable character in Dragon Ball Heroes, making his debut in the fifth mission of the Jaaku Mission series (JM5). In this form, his pupils and irises vanish. He gains a Demon symbol on his forehead like most Destruction Kings do.

Villainous Mode

Via consuming the Fruit of the Tree of Might (Demon Realm) created by Towa, Turles can access the second stage Villainous Mode power-up which causes him to gain a dark purple aura and glowing red eyes, while increasing his power greatly. However, as Towa tainted the fruit to test a new spell on Turles and Slug which causes their bodies to swell with dark energy which causes them to acquire an even greater power-up.

Supervillain

Through Towa's tampering with the Demon Realm enhanced Fruit, her new spell can shave off Turles' life in order to unlock even greater power resulting in a new kind of dark power up. This power up causes him to gain a sinister black and white aura, while causing his pupils to emit a pinkish red glow. In this state, he believed himself to be powerful enough to defeat the Time Breakers after he had dealt with the Future Warrior and Trunks: Xeno, though ultimately he was no match for them though this may have been due his power-up being used as test run to help Towa perfect it and only grants him what would eventually become the first stage Supervillain Mode.

Tutz is the EX-Fusion of Turles and Raditz introduced in Dragon Ball Fusions. He wears a red scouter visor produced by Turles and Raditz's Scouters fusing with them.

Ultra Fusion

By performing Five-Way Fusion with any four members of Tekka's Team he can fuse to create a powerful Ultra Fusion. If initiated by Turles himself the resulting Ultra Fusion will be a male Saiyan with Turles' skin tone.

Tree of Might

A holy tree grown from the Seed of Might that requires the energy of an entire planet to produce. Turles and the Crusher Corps. travel in search of planets to plant its seeds in order to grow the Tree and the holy fruit it produces. Using extract from the Tree of Might, Turles can bring someone back to life, even if they have been long dead. He used it to bring the two Beenz brothers Rasin and Lakasei back to life from their fossils.

Fruit of the Tree of Might

The holy fruit of the Tree of Might that is normally reserved for gods and divine beings (Eternal Dragons according to the Funimation dub). Turles eats a piece of Fruit from the Tree of Might, drastically raising his power level. Used twice during The Tree of Might.

Fruit of the Tree of Might (Demon Realm)

A demonic strain of the Fruit of the Tree of Might created by Towa in Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 for Turles by exposing it to the effects of the Demon Realm, corrupting it with dark energy. Turles gives some of this fruit to Burter and Jeice on Namek in the main story while giving it to the entire Ginyu Force and Vegeta in a Parallel Quest. Also consumed by Turles in the main story to combat the Future Warrior.

Trivia

• In the French AB Group dub, Turles is stated to be Goku's brother. This was likely a way of explaining their physical similarities for that version of the movie.
• Turles' original name, Tullece is a pun on the vegetable "lettuce". The name is written out as ターレス, Tāresu. If the first two syllables are rearranged, it becomes レタース, retāsu. Ignoring the elongated "a" sound, it becomes the accurate Japanese spelling of "lettuce", レタス retasu.
• In the November 1991 issue of V-Jump, it is noted that Turles is Goku's older brother. There are also several statements that Turles is the brother of Goku given in international dubs and surrounding media. These include the AB Groupe dub, the Danish dub, the French dub, and a line from Bardock during the German dub of Bardock - The Father of Goku. A booklet given to Japanese attendees of the original movie included a statement that such visual similarities were common among Saiyans of the same rank. However, the Dragon Ball Z Movie 7 “Film Anime Comic”, which featured a family tree of several of the main Saiyan characters, places Turles on his own to one side.^[4]
• In the AB Group dub, Turles also claimed that he had just eaten a fruit from the Tree of Might (called the "Sacred Tree" in this version) after Goku defeats his henchmen. In all the other English dubs, as well as the original Japanese dub, he only consumes its fruit while fighting Goku.
• Turles is the only character who actually manages to destroy a Spirit Bomb. Even Frieza and Kid Buu, both of whom are significantly stronger than Turles, only managed to slow it down or repel it outright, respectively. However, it should be noted that the Tree of Might had drained most of the energy from Earth so there was very little energy used to make it. Also, the Spirit Bombs used on Frieza and Kid Buu contained much more energy, the Large Spirit Bomb contained energy from Namek and its surrounding planets, while the Super Spirit Bomb contained the energy of everyone on Earth, New Namek, and Other World. Thus Turles was only able to destroy a Spirit Bomb created from what little energy remained on Earth and Turles was later killed along with the Tree of Might by a Spirit Bomb created by the Earth's energy contained in the Tree of Might itself.
• In Plan to Eradicate the Super Saiyans, Turles claims that his hatred for the Saiyans is greater than Frieza's, Cooler's and Lord Slug's, an arguably hypocritical sentiment. However, this Turles is merely a phantom, which could explain the irony in his statement when the real Turles actually displayed noticeable pride in his Saiyan heritage in The Tree of Might.
• In some games, Turles will have a special dialog where he will express surprise at seeing Goku's Super Saiyan transform and in several games it is implied that he realizes the true nature of the transformation.
• In Xenoverse 2 and Raging Blast 2, he has a special dialog with Teen Gohan where he will assume that Gohan had simply dyed his hair blonde.
• Interestingly, despite other Saiyans such as Bardock, Raditz, and Nappa acquiring some form of Super Saiyan transformation in other media, Turles himself has yet to acquire his own Super Saiyan form. Given his resemblance to Goku and Bardock, presumably, his Super Saiyan form would resemble theirs though it remains to be seen if this is actually the case.
• In some games, Turles' alternate costumes have his Battle Armor colored similar to Tora's and a Scouter with a lens colored similar to Tarble's.
• In the original Japanese dub and many international dubs, Turles shares the same voice actor as Goku or has a similar voice, although this is not the case in the three official North American Tree of Might dubs.
• In the edited three-part Saban dub, Turles mutters to himself "huh, a Spirit Bomb? This can't be!" moments before Goku uses the attack. This would imply that Turles had encountered the technique before or met King Kai, although it should be noted that the line is not present in any other version.
• In the early English dubs, the blue parts of Turles' armor appear to be purple, due to the saturation filters Funimation applied to the original Japanese footage. This was corrected in their subsequent Blu-ray releases.
• In the DBH trailers and Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans remake, Turles lacks the "devil horn" hairs on his head.
• In the debut episode of another evil counterpart of Goku: Goku Black, lettuce appears heavily in the episode, likely as a reference to Turles (as Super tends to reference past character's name puns).^[6]
• Turles is the only evil counterpart of Goku who is not the result of another character switching bodies with Goku, as Turles is simply an evil Saiyan who looks like Goku.
• Despite both being evil counterparts of Goku, Goku Black is shown to be disgusted by Turles' barbaric Saiyan personality and sees it as just more proof that mortals must be exterminated. However, during the story of Xenoverse 2, they technically become allies when Black summons Turles along with other villains.
• In Xenoverse 2 Super Pack 4 DLC, Turles meets Vegeta for the first time and Vegeta actually has no idea who he is, believing him to be another version of Goku Black, meaning that Turles was never around on Planet Vegeta while Vegeta was a child. However, like Broly, Goku recognizes Turles who was thought to be destroyed.
• However as a Time Patrol Academy Instructor, Vegeta recognizes Turles' name and reveals he is aware that Turles is a low-class warrior who was a troublemaker that never learned how to follow orders indicating he had at the very least heard of Turles, though presumably never met him which would explain why he doesn't recognize him in the story. It should also be noted as a royal it is possible that Prince Vegeta simply did not recognize the low-class warrior, as Turles himself claims that his resemblance to Goku was due to little variation in appearance among the lower class.
• Additionally, Vegeta was likely unaware of Turles' survival as Turles originated from a different timeline according to Chronoa (while Vegeta himself originates from the altered main timeline) and Vegeta was likely under the impression that the only pure Universe 7 Saiyans still alive were himself and Goku (with Black himself being a Shinjin in Goku's body), thus assumed Turles must have been another incarnation of Black which makes sense given Goku Black's ability to create portals that can summon clones of himself.
